Wayne Lytle is my hero

Wayne Lytle is my hero

Wayne Lytle is my hero.

No, really. My hero. Here’s why:

Wayne had an idea that landed completely off the beaten path. Wait, more than idea, almost an obsession from what I can tell. Then again, maybe it was just the isolation resulting from being snowed in all those winter nights at Cornell that drove him to his mad, mirthful creation.

Wayne found his muse in Music and Technology, that magical mix that I love so much too! The end result of his obsession is the realization of his company Animusic.

I don’t even recall where I first stumbled upon his work, altho I think I was during an animated film festival. When you watch so many shorts at once they tend to run together, at least for me. Consequently, this magically mirthful ensemble dropped off my radar for awhile. It was a couple more years until I ran across the website for his company.

This is such a creative way to express your Inner-Techie, and so much more fulfilling than, say, writing tax prep software (not that there’s anything wrong with that :-) ). To be able to find the perfect niche for yourself is a dream that I think we all share in common. Wayne Lytle made it happen! Wayne Lytle, you’re my hero!

Go and explore his website (but don’t forget to come back here!) so you can get a taste of what he’s all about. And while you’re there, be sure to check out the DVD Info and Clips page. Both of the Animusic DVDs are previewed there. On the Animusic 1 DVD you’ll find one of my favorite clips: Pipe Dreams, the fifth cut. Watching this video clip just makes me want to build a machine that can really play music by shooting little balls out of a cone!

Now there is a challenge for a real mirthmaker - just how do you go about bringing something like this to life? Hmmmm.. maybe, just maybe it’s time I started thinking about the coil gun experiments again. I’ve let that rest too long due to other diversions. The coil gun idea really would be an interesting place to start. And of course with fewer “notes” to play, a suitable prototype might still be very amusing. Perhaps even downright mirthful. Guess I better go take a long soak in the bathtub so I can do some powerful pondering on this one!
