The Gallery is now online
I’ve been checking out different gallery software packages that I could find, in order to better share my photos with you, Gentle Reader.
I have selected Gallery2, a php application that will run in my existing server configuration, and will also integrate nicely with the Wordpress software which drives this blog. I like the functionality that Gallery2 brings to the party, especially the slide show feature. I keep my personal photos in iPhoto on my Mac, so if I am without my Mac then I can’t show my pics to friends. With my photos up on the server under Gallery I can share my pics with friends by simply emailing a link to the gallery, or placing a link within my blog. And bringing up a slide show anywhere is as easy as opening a web browser. Yay!
Not only does Gallery2 have a great support community, there are also several hardy souls dedicated to WPG2, an integration of Gallery2 within Wordpress. This made my own installation go much smoother, and eliminated any hand coding at all.
In my installation I have elected to have the Gallery exist as a stand-alone entity, although many people choose to fully integrate the Gallery2 pages within the framework of their Wordpress blog. Since the Gallery doesn’t share the CSS of the blog, I can choose any theme I like for the Gallery, independent of the blog theme.
I’m going to begin uploading pics to share with you, gentle reader, and will soon post again with fun pics to view! Additionally, I’ll place a link to the gallery in my sidebar, so you can visit the gallery whenever you please.
Cheers!
Mirth Maker
