The Wonderful Tree Carvings of Tim Tingle
If for any reason you happen to find yourself in Montevallo, Alabama, and you’ve got some time on your hands, then I recommend you take a trip to Orr Park. Now I’m sure you’re wondering what’s so darn impressive about a tiny park in a small town. Is it some rare ornamental planting? Could it be an endangered species, protected now from near extinction in the womb of some dying tree? Or maybe a spectacular water show rising from Shoal Creek, to the shame of The Fountains of the Bellagio? Nope, it’s none of those! It’s something even more special! It’s TingleWood!
Local artist Tim Tingle has left his mark here. Orr Park has been transformed into something magical through his talent. Instead of removing aging trees as they died, Tim convinced the city to allow him to use them as the raw materials for his work. Having worked on one after another for many years now, the park is truly a wonderful place for a stroll. The City of Montevallo is gracious enough to provide this printable map of the park.
You’ll have to be on the lookout to really appreciate all of Tinglewood, as some of the carvings blend in so well with their surroundings. The imagination of Tinglewood is wild and wonderful, mirthful and magical!
I took my camera by Tinglewood recently, and have gathered photos of most of the carvings into a photo album. If you can’t get to TingleWood yourself then please enjoy this virtual stroll via my photo gallery!
