A Mirth Maker Extraordinaire! Professor Johan Liljencrants
I know I have said this before, and I hate to belabor the point… but I love the web! While digging around on the web for information about the construction of organ pipes I ran across a unique individual who must truly be considered a Mirth Maker Extraordinaire!
Professor Johan Liljencrants mirth making is documented in this delightful article about the JoLi Street Organ. A true work of passion, the construction of the JoLi Organ has been meticulously documented by the professor, to the benefit of us all!
Professor Liljencrants has a wonderful website devoted to his study/hobby/passion. As an engineer, I really appreciate the theoretical depth of the discussions of his designs. It’s like icing on the cake for me, really. Until I recently began working on PipeCAD again I hadn’t thought about the fabrication of organ pipes for several years. While searching for information about the current state of affairs I ran across Professor Liljencrants’ Recipe for Wooden Organ Flue Pipes, complete with a download for an excel spreadsheet containing the calculations he made in the construction of the pipes. The Professor gives full details of his construction of the pipes, and I intend to set myself to studying his methods and formulas. Understanding more about how to model an organ pipe should make better calculations possible for PipeCAD.
Take the time to enjoy reading all the wonderful data on the Professor’s website… just don’t forget to come back here!
